The RIOgaleão Airport is served by two taxi services:
- Common or Amarelinhos (bright yellow) taxis
- Special taxis or Accredited
The Common or Amarelinhos Taxis
Ordinary taxis in Rio de Janeiro are painted yellow with a blue stripe on the side and the vast majority also has printed on the back side , a contact phone number and the logo of the cooperative.
You can browse the booths of common Taxis Cooperatives , Aerotaxi and Aerocoop , authorized by the airport in both of the terminals.
There you can book your fare using a table with fixed values according to the distance you’ll go . Or can choose using the the taximeter fee .
Paying the fixed fee is sometimes more convenient so you don’t have to worry about road blocks or traffic jams which can extend the trip and increase the price.
The booths for common Taxis Cooperatives are right across exiting Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 .
IF ANYONE APPROACHES YOU IN OR OUT OF TERMINAL , OFFERING A CAB, SAY, NO! Go to the cabin of the Cooperative , and only there, book your fare.
Accept unknown taxi services can be more expensive than you think.
Bring with you the itinerary to your destination printed from Google maps and ask the driver to follow it.
The Special Taxis or Accredited
Generally are more spacious and newer . There is no standardized color to distinguish them. Their rates are usually 80 % more expensive than the price of Taxis Commons, because they are only booked by radio and are monotorized. Upon completing the trip they must return to the original point of departure.
The booths for Special Taxis (Coopertramo , Cootramo, Transcootour, Coopatur and Transcoopas) are right across exiting Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 .
Always write down the phone number of the Cooperative including the car identification number in case you leave any belongings behind. It makes it easier to recover.
See all pricing, schedules and locations applicable to conventional and special taxis at City Department of Transportation of Rio de Janeiro site (only in Portuguese) and take your pick .
