What makes Copacabana so special?
Its beautiful beach with a wide range of clear and fine sand?
The boardwalk with the stylized waves drawn in Portuguese stones, trademark of the place?
Avenida Atlantica, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro
The imposing building of the Copacabana Palace , which has hosted presidents , kings , international artists and great personalities?
Sporting and cultural events that take place every year on stage mounted on the sand?
The celebration of New Year’s Eve that gathers every year millions of people from around the world?
Copacabana is all this and much more …
Copacabana is a vibrant neighborhood . And here’s a curious fact : if not the most populous district of Rio de Janeiro, it’s the district with the largest number of people per square meter – there are more than three. Joining them are the ones who work there and we have an extremely busy neighborhood.
Eat in Copacabana : options for every taste and budget.
Copacabana has much to offer, its trade is concentrated practically in two of the main streets of the neighborhood: Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana and Rua Barata Ribeiro both parallel to the coast, forming a large outdoor mall.
You can also find a lot of restaurants, steakhouses, pizzerias, bakeries and supermarkets. For foreign tourists the big stars are restaurants selling food per kilo, where you choose what you want to eat from the buffett bar and pay only for what was placed on the plate, and the all-you-can-it places of meat and/or pizza, where you splurge.
Here are 10 meat place options and the “a kilo” food Buffet.
Here are the top, best, and consequently more expensive steakhouses of the neighborhood and other good options such as cheaper Buffet per kilogram with barbecue.
Frutas frescas que dão bons sucos!
One of the most traditional things of Rio, are the natural fruit juice shops. Nothing healthier for those who want to keep the body in shape and enjoy the beach. In practically every block of Copacabana you will find a snack and fruit juice places.
Store counters feature a huge variety of fresh fruit. The juices or smoothies, are freshly made and natural sandwiches are the very popular meals consumed by locals and visitors.
One of the best known juice location is “ BIBI Juices”. It has a huge variety of natural fruit juices that may be accompanied by other variety of choices such as quinoa, coconut water , almond milk , powdered guarana and others …
Copacabana. The Beach.
To understand Copacabana is necessary to live Copacabana. You must come see Copacabana. Feel the atmosphere of the place.
The visual’s delightful: the beach, the buildings and the surrounding mountains. The Sugar Loaf on one side and the hill of the Two Brothers on the other.
Although the beach is located in a very busy district, the climate invites you to walk or bike the path of Atlantic Avenue, as do hundreds of people every day or to just relax; sit on the sand enjoying the sea.
Traffic on Copacabana beach .
On Sundays and holidays one of the Atlantic Avenue lanes becomes recreation area and is closed to cars until 6pm and from Monday to Friday in the morning ( from 06am until 10am ) , in both lanes , the traffic moves in only one direction ( towards Downtown).
Copacabana do Posto 1 ao Posto 6.
As in the entire Copacabana beach area which is a little over 4 kilometers of beach extension there are six rescue stations.
They are standardized structures with paid bathroom for the public. By popular description of the neighborhood the area was divided into sectors with their assigned numbers from 1 to 6
Handicraft market of Lido Square.
All weekends and holidays, artisans assemble their tents in the Lido Square at Posto 2 in Copacabana Beach. Although it is smaller than the famous handicraft market in Ipanema she has a good variety of items.
They are T-shirts with images of Rio, team shirts for children, miniatures of Christ the Redeemer and many other local handcrafts. For those who want to take a souvenir of the visit to Rio, worth knowing.
Fresh fish every day .
At Posto 6, for example, is installed a century old fishing village, where every morning boats arrive with the catch of the day that will supply numerous restaurants in the neighborhood and serve residents in the local fish stands .
This is the longest wooden stretch of the waterfront.
Forte de Copacabana.
Another ”must see point” of Posto 6 that should not be missed is the Copacabana Fort.
In addition to the Army Historical Museum, the site has two rooms with temporary exhibitions.
Here is the map Fort.
You can also visit the Fortification in the Summit of the Cannons, see how the officers lived and how things were operated inside the bunkers.
The most traditional breakfast is served on the Fort grounds.
“Café do Forte” is a branch of the traditional Colombo Confectionery, a heritage of Rio, which remains unique and preserved in downtown Rio, since 1894. To get an idea, on weekends and holidays, lines start forming an hour before opening.
At the one on the Fort everyone wants tables that are near the low wall overlooking the beach.
Enjoy a traditional breakfast with a privileged view of Copacabana Beach, is worth any effort.
See, on the map, where are the places indicated here.
