The first stop , after passing through the portal is the Taunay Waterfall .
Take a short stroll to discover the arch of the bridge in front of the Waterfall .
Second stop, Mayrink Chapel . Built by orders of Viscount Souza in 1850. The “Pink Chapel” , color symbolizing the family at the time of the coffee barons.
Third stop, the Visitor Center which offers a permanent exhibition called “A Forest in the Metropolis” with a replica (about three meters in size) of the area, where you can identify points of interest of the Forest.
There are also two restaurants, the most traditional is called “Os Esquilos”(” The Chipmunks “) .
In 1942 , Hugo Busca, a famous Italian cook, landed on the dock of Rio , coming from Turin, Italy. Soon conquered the cream of Rio’s society of the time . Rio, then, was the country’s capital and his fame arrived at the Government Palace. In 1945 he won the Getúlio Vargas , then President of the Republic , the concession to found the Restaurant and to this day the family still runs the place . The house was the residence of Baron d’ Escrangnole one of those who helped reforest the park .
In addition, there are several trails, caves, waterfalls, places to practice mountaineering , playgrounds and spaces reserved for children, BBQ , but to best benefit from the visit, it’s suggested to bring a tour guide along.
Before leaving visit the Dam of Loneliness which can be found by the exit.
